Giza Pyramid Tickets and Going Inside
Giza pyramids ticket prices for foreign visitors, the extra ticket to go inside the Great Pyramid, the new entrance and shuttle, and whether the interior is worth it. Checked October 2026.
A foreign adult pays EGP 700 to enter the Giza pyramids plateau, and going inside a pyramid is a separate ticket on top: the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities lists EGP 1,000 for the Great Pyramid of Khufu and EGP 280 for the Pyramid of Menkaure (checked October 2026). The flight day trips from Hurghada include the plateau ticket; on several bus trips the entry tickets are an option you add at booking. Interiors are always extra. Check your listing: the flight trip, Cairo Day Trip by Flight with the Pyramids, Sphinx and Museum, is from $268 a person (checked October 2026) with an Egyptologist guide at Giza.

Prices from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ pages on egymonuments.gov.eg, checked October 2026. Several 2026 travel guides print EGP 1,500 for the Great Pyramid interior, so carry enough for the higher figure. The Pyramid of Khafre also has an interior ticket; its official page did not load when we checked, so we do not print a figure for it.
Students need an international student card to pay the student price. Egyptian pound prices rise from time to time, usually at the start of a month, which is why every figure here carries the month it was read.

Is the plateau ticket included on a day trip?
On the flight trips, yes: the flight day trip by Book Tour Egypt lists the entrance fees for the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx and for the museum you choose. On several bus trips the tickets are an option at booking, so the lowest price you see does not include them. What no standard trip includes is the inside of a pyramid (the burial chambers of Khufu and Khafre are listed as exclusions), a camel or horse ride, or drinks at lunch. Tickets bought at the site are paid by card: the sites do not take cash. Read the “includes” list on your listing before you go; the tours on our tours page are summarised with what each one covers.

Can you go inside the pyramids?
Yes, with the extra ticket. The Great Pyramid’s interior is the famous one: a low ascending passage, then the tall Grand Gallery, then the King’s Chamber, a plain granite room with an empty stone sarcophagus. There is no painted decoration, it is warm and humid, and in places you climb bent double on a ramp with handrails.
Is going inside worth it? For most day trippers, no, and it is not because of the price. The climb takes 20 to 30 minutes in and out of a two-to-three-hour stop, it is the most claustrophobic part of the day, and what you see at the top is an empty room. It is worth it if being inside the last standing Wonder of the Ancient World is the point of your trip for you. If you are unsure, Menkaure costs a fraction and gives you the sensation of the descent without the queue.
If you know you want the interior, book a trip that offers it as an option: Hurghada to Cairo: Inside Khufu Pyramid, Old Cairo and the Bazaar adds entry inside the Great Pyramid when you select it, with Old Cairo and Khan el-Khalili after Giza, from $65 a person in current promotion (usually $81), rated 4.9 from 294 reviews (checked October 2026).
The new entrance and the shuttle
In April 2025 the plateau’s main entrance moved from the Mena House side, by the Great Pyramid, to a new gate and visitor centre on the Fayoum road south of the pyramids. Private cars and tour coaches no longer drive onto the plateau; visitors ride electric vehicles between the stops. For a day tripper this changes two things: the first view of the pyramids is from the south-west, and the tour coach parks at the visitor centre while you ride the shuttle. Your guide handles both. The camel and horse owners were moved to designated zones at the same time.
How long does it take to walk around the pyramids?
On a day trip you get about two to three hours at Giza (the listings allow 2 to 3 hours), which is enough for the Great Pyramid from outside, the Panorama Point, where all three line up, and the Sphinx and its valley temple. Walking the whole plateau yourself is roughly a few kilometres on sand and stone, in little shade; with the shuttle you only walk at each stop.
The best month to visit the pyramids
November to March: Cairo’s average daily high is about 19 °C in January, against 35 °C in July. It is also the busy season, and January is the peak of the Hurghada day-trip market, so book a few days ahead. Ramadan in 2027 is expected to start around 8 or 9 February, and sites can shorten their hours during the month.
